Subject: Electronic tagging

Hi Don,

Congratulations on the new MB!

On the GHMB you asked about electronic tagging, so I thought i would reply here. This is an idea that the UK authorities would like to introduce on a wide scale. At present, it is only experimental and in a few places in the UK. However, I understand that it is an idea that was borrowed from the USA.

It consists of putting a collar, with an electronic tag, around the persons leg and this emits a bleep, if the person strays outside designated boundaries, which is then picked up back at police HQ, so that they can react to it.
Whatever will they think of next.

Best wishes,

David A
