Peter do you believe that Nasa have been involved in hiding anything? Hoagland points out quite correctly that their record in relation to their mission statement, about being an open and sharing organisation is questionable at least, criminal at most. Whenever the original picture from Viking came to our attention Nasa almost immediately said they had a second confirming picture that proved betond a doubt that the image was the result of some pretty coincidential shadowing. They waiting nearly 30 years before they admitted that this was not the case. Since the early pictures there has been some seriously dodgy altering of images to fit with their public utterances. I think this question needs to be answered beyond a doubt so far it hasnt, and that question is, was someone on Mars at some point in the past, given the humanoid nature of the face were we on Mars at some long forgotten time in our past? Hoagland has at time undoubtely let himself be distracted by the personal abuse he and his organisation has had to endure and this sometimes leaves him isolated but in reality I can see no reason why he would have devoted so much of his life and time to perpetuating a lie about Mars.
