Then, the 1st buck's mother ushers him away and they sprint to the safety of the thicket. The 2nd buck's mother arrives and tries to call to him from afar and stays to protect him if he was still alive, then suddenly one of the older male bucks charges at the wolf, flinging the young buck with him and his mother runs after her limp son and the wolf as the rest of the herd runs off. The doe walks over to her dead son and nudges him gently, only faintly hearing the soft breathing of the wolf in the grass only a yard away.
