He growls at her, *What stupid excuse for a predator would go after the harder to catch? You need to study up on predator behavior more.* He sees the doe rise, and he knows that if he waits the doe will get away. He lunges tactfully around the dog to get at the deer. He bites at her neck. No deer with a broken leg can survive for long. She would certainly just be eaten by someone else, but he wasn't going to let that happen. He was HUNGRY, and he is going to dang well get his well-deserved feast of doe meat.
