I was watching the word network and there was a lady called( Dr.) dee dee and she was so called teaching on Joseph and she said that he ( Joseph ) was used by GOD in the time of a, and I quote " the time of a phantom" yes thats right a phantom not famine, phantom she said it three times and she also said that Joseph was a ruler (not pharoh) Joseph was the ruler of egypt. Also that Joseph was the ruler of the (City) of Egypt and the( town) of Egypt how in the world can anyone get a degree let alone a doctrinal dergree and speak so , how can I say this.. speak so uneducated and call themselves a DR. of theology . Where are they getting their degrees? I really want to know, does anyone know? Has anyone else noticed this on Tv, that there are pastors and preachers on tv with phd's and you can't even understand what they are saying how do they graduate? I really want to know. Darwin

Well, in ministry/church related areas, laws are often quite relaxed concerning the operation and administration thereof. As long as you pay any proper taxes, the government backs off. And this is rightfully so if we are to have a separation of church and state - the church should be able to set its own standards as the church is in no way inferior to the state.

However, many use this freedom (because a church has the right to grant legal degrees as long as they are purely religious) without consideration of a high standard. You see this especially among many of the non-Christian groups (often referred to as ordination mills) such as (you already know) who ordain people as whatever they want to be called (witch, monk, supreme being) in the freedom of religion. With these organizations all you have to do is give them $25 - $100 and you have a degree (bachelor - doctorate). But, you even have Christian churches doing the same. Often a "Christian" church/school/university will give a popular preacher an Honorary Doctorate degree for personal gain (recognition/credibility from the preachers fame or to get a big donation from the rich preacher) despite the teachings or twisted faith of the preacher. Some do deserve to receive the honorary degrees, but not all.

So, all in all, it varies. You just have to do as Jesus said and look at the fruit. There will be many that will come in His name who are not of Him, and plenty that will seek to deceive the nations. And if they are being deceptive in such little matters as claiming a status that they know they are unworthy of, what shall they do with the weightier matters for the purpose of self-glorification and gain? Just judge the fruit and make your own determination in love and righteousness. :)
