If he lost, he would have died and then he wouldn't get on the talk show, and Zim couldn't ask him if he threw the muffin. and I think he knew that Dib threw the muffin, he just made him think he succeeded and then snached it away from him, like he was taking away Dib's hopes of ever beating him.
