You certainly are one of the few level-headed posters in this forum. It is nice to have a reasonable discourse.
But, you claim that Brady's actions were "self-serving" and that he did the school a "misservice.:"
My perception is that you're looking at Matt's departure clearly as a Marist "fan."
Look at it from Matt's side of things:
He gave Marist four very good seasons, maybe the best era of Marist basketball in many years.
He took players who had little previous success and made them better. He turned Jared Jordan, who had no offensive skills whatsoever except as a superlative passer, into a very good shooter. That was typical of the improvement most of Marist's players made under Matt.
Matt was "underpaid" by mid-major standards, making about $130K annually.
In any endeavor, success brings rewards.
Matt's came in the form of a very good offer from James Madison University for $350K annually.
At JMU, as I've noted repeatedly on this board, Matt now coaches in a better league than the MAAC, gets greater financial support for travel, recruiting, etc.; his team plays in an arena rather than a gym; he gets considerably more support from school administration, etc., etc.
If the trolls on this board are any indication, he has a better, more supportive fan base.
Why would he not leave?
How is leaving a misservice to Marist?
As for self-serving?
Who wouldn't make that move?
Coaches do it all the time.
Paul Hewitt left Siena after three seasons. Louis Orr left Siena after 49 weeks there;
John Beilein left Canisius; Bobby Gonzalez left Manhattan; Tim Welch left Iona; Dino Gaudio left Loyola ... to become an assistant at Xavier; etc., etc...
There was a situation at Marist beyond the basketball court. Matt was made some promises by Marist's administration that never were fulfilled. Others on this board have indicated that the Marist administration wasn't as supportive of the program as it probably should have been.
But, that's not even the point.
I know Brady personally, and have known him for a long time. He is a good, decent human being. He has done nothing but represent the institutions where he has worked in the best possible way. He is a very good coach, and showed that in four seasons at Marist.
Coaches come and go all the time. It's a way of life in the profession, particularly at the mid-major level.
If you succeed, you move up ... and Matt did. Why not?
Because if you fail, you get fired.
There's no loyalty at this level. Ask Dave Magarity about that.
It seems like you have an understanding of that, unlike some of the morons (that's you Yankee and huh?) who make boards like this a sesspool.
"How could Brady leave our school?" is all idiots like that see. They live in their small, isolated world.
Matt left for triple his salary and improvements in every other aspect of JMU's program compared to Marist.
If he didn't leave, he'd have been a fool.
Matt succeeded and got rewarded in a manner that Marist could not begin to match.
Anyone in any walk of life who had the opportunity to triple his salary and move into an "improved" job situation would do so in a heartbeat.
And the employer left behind would understand.
Marist certainly did.
But, for some reason, the majority of the trolls on this board just can't figure out why Matt left and portray him as a villain.
In truth there's no villain here. Just a good man moving on as is his right and as is the expectation in mid-major level basketball.
How is that self-serving and doing a misservice?
