Subject: Keys for Marist women to get an NCAA tourney win next year

I will start with one, what do others see?

-Yarde hit a wall this year and struggled with the speed of the game towards the end. However with a year experience I see a big jump in her output next year. Since Allenspach will now be the starting 2 guard, Yarde will get a good amount of time. Marist needs her athleticism in terms of driving to the basket. She has that capability.

I agree the torch has been passed from Viani to Allenspach at the 2. Who do you think will then start at the 3, Johnson or Yarde? It should be Johnson, but Giorgis doesn't seem to want her in there at the beginning. Fitz at 4 and do we all agree it will be Gang starting at the 5. Laterza seems to be sinking in the foward position. Stallings, out with a broken nose, got more playing time than Laterza did in the VA game.

Does Marist recruit from the Connecticut area, players that would contribute greatly towards Marist advancing in the NCAA? Probably the number one player out of Connecticut this year and last, Simone Roberts of New Britain CT. is headed to Providence College, a Big East school. Did Marist attempt to recruit her. The University of Hartford has a few Connecticut players on their team who took part in defeating Marist last year. Were they recruited by Marist? In order for Marist to advance, the program must recruit and land those ladies from the Connecticut area who either go off to Big East, ACC, Atlantic 10 or other mid-major schools. 3 years back, a kid from Windsor, CT. Shani Gray, was recruited by and is playing for Virginia Tech. Did Marist attempt to recruit her?

Both Marist and Hartford offered Rachel Roberts from CT for this next year but she ultimately signed with Villanova.

There's a player from Career High School in Hamden, CT. who is recruited by and headed off to play for the University of Miami, a Big East school. Did Marist attempt to recruit her as well?

I am sure Giorgis would recruit Iraq if there was a good person who could play the game of basketball. Just because these players haven't signed with Marist, doesn't mean he hasn't tried. He has connections in other parts of the country obviously. Why wouldn't he continue to recruit those areas heavily?

BG has consistantly said that California and Ohio are the two hotbeds of girls high school basketball. With his family having moved to Ohio from the Syracuse area while he was in college, he is obviously familiar with the state. I would submit that he hasn't done too badly with the recruits that he has gotten from Ohio. I have yet to see one of the Beach Boys home town girls suit up in Red and White though. (LOL)

I think by now we all know Giorgis recruits for the system not necessarily for the best players...and lets face it, a lot of the kids going to the Big East dont fit the profile of the type of kid Giorgis looks for.

Funny someone brings up Villanova getting a kid over Marist...I read or heard something that says the coaches consider Villanova to be among Marist's biggest rivals when it comes to recruiting...and that says something about the quality of our program right there. Imagine if our men's team was competing with Villanova for recruits!

What type of kid is Giorgis looking for? I am certain those kids I previously mentioned from Connecticut, along with one from Stamford,CT now playing with St. John's, are all quality kids.St. John's, Providence, Virginia Tech, Hartford, and Miami are all quality schools that recruit quality kids. I am just wondering what does Giorgis consider quality for Marist's program.

St. John's, VA Tech and Miami are not quality schools that recruit quality students. Some, however, recruit quality bb players.

I think Kelsey Beynnon will be a good example. Can anyone tell me if she can play both the 3 & 4? If she can, she could be a real weapon & be a key to The Lady Red Foxes getting back to the NCAA, even if she's a freshman.

I heard a rumor that Beynnon had been playing point guard for her HS Team...so I would assume she could be a 3/4/5 player.

To the point of typical Giorgis players...forwards who can run the floor and shoot the midrange jumper...guards who can hit the three over 35% but still drive to the basket...of course everyone must be able to handle the ball and pass...all that plus they gotta be kids who want a degree and will excel in the classroom.

If you've seen pictures of the players Fan was referring to:
*Simone Roberts
*Lisa Etienne, Diana Delva, Erica Beverly (The Hartford players from CT that beat Marist in 07-08)
*Virginia Tech's Shani Gray
*Anisha Wilson, the player from CT headed to Miami

you can guess what he's inferring.
