Part 1

Q: How’s your eyes and your back? Heard that there were some problems with them some time ago.
YP: I didn’t damage my eyes. Just did the laser surgery before the concert and gone to filming right after without any rest and so the recovery is not very good. It’s OK now. Don’t worry. Just went back to Taiwan for some check ups, doc said it’s OK. My back had some sports related damage before. Couldn’t avoid some bruising and tearing because of filming Yi Tian. Got some small problems, also did X ray, and it’s OK.

Q: You just finished filming Yi Tian. A lot of people had done that before, how do you make your Wu Ji stands out?
YP: Every role has its own characteristics. Couldn’t be possible to act exactly the same way as the others. I only act according to my understanding of Wu Ji. I think I got some similar characteristics as Wu Ji and so I just act naturally and did it. I know many people are fans of JinYong and also of YiTian, I like it very much too. I already prepared myself psychologically for criticisms and comments from the public.

Q: Please comment on the other characters in YiTian.
YP: (simplified) They are all very good with their own character, particularly the outlook. Their outlook matched perfectly with the description of the roles. They also put extra elements (their own personality) into the role to bring it alive.

Q: Your image was very cute and pure when you were still the “young tigers”. Now you are very cool, how do you feel about that?
YP: Of course I am more mature now, due to older age and also more working experience. As for my own personality, I don’t think there are any drastic changes. I also present myself in a very caring (warm) way. I am only more mature.

Q: Do you want to try on the role of more negative characters?
YP: Ho ho ho, since you mentioned it, ho ho ho, yes, just finished reading some script. It’s very challenging to me. It’s something that I never had a chance to touch (to act). I always wish for something different when I got a new role. When everyone sees me as a passionate “Wu A Ge”, I took on the role of “Du Fei”. I wish everyone thinks of me as an actor, not the same character in every drams series.
I got a very difficult part lately, very cool and stylish, became a cool killer at the end. The script really caught my attention and I am now thinking about how I should play the role if I decided to take on the series. Will starting filming in Oct if I decided to take it on. A lot of people asked me whether I would take on a negative role before, now is the chance, everyone satisfied? I don’t know, reporters always ask me this question, they are curious as to whether I will take on a negative role.

Q: Your “Wu A Ge” was very passionate. Your “Du Fei” is fun, what about yourself, what’s your real personality?
YP: I think I am more like Wu A Ge, somebody who is more gentle and mature. But I can be fun as well, not to the extend of Du Fei la. Sometimes when I am not feeling great, my face will be very black (all emotions shown on the face). Cannot really tell you my personality in one sentence la.
