Sorry, I don't have any experience creating plugin's, and I don't know what their contraints are.

The only thing that comes to mind is that since the VCL uses AnsiStrings (which are reference counted for memory management), I think you need to use a unit called ShareMem in your DLL. Not sure if this is related to your problem.
