Generally there is not anything that can be done about this. CreateDibSection is a Windows API call, and it will fail when an image is too large. But this depends from system to system, different video mode, OS, driver...

Some experimentation has been done on this on EFG computer lab,

Other than reducing the number of colors or size, I don't think there is a workaround for this.
