Need help with creating one image out of two TIFF images.

I have two TIFF images. One is the front of a scanned check and the other is the back of the same check.
Currently I can print each image (front and back) on two separate pieces of paper, however that is a lot of wasted paper. So my goal is to print one page (8.5 x 11) where the top part of the page is the front of the page and the lower part of the page is the back of the image.
At a later time I would also like to do country club printing with four up and two across. I am sure that is going to be easy after I get my “two up and one across” done.

Any suggestions or code snips are always appreciated.
