Subject: TImageList

Hello,
Since I installed Envision 2 I can not add an image to an TImageList any more. According to a newsgroup this behaviour could have been forced with Envision 2.

Any ideas?

Michael

From the newsgroup:

Following a recent frenzy of driver updates (latest NVidia Detonator, for
GeForce 2 MX 400, DirectX 9) I find I can no longer add images to a
TImageList in Delphi.

Almost everything appears to work - previously added images are still there,
you can select and preview images in the "Add Images" dialog from the
ImageList Editor, but hit OK on a selected image and you get a "File format
not supported by imagelist editor" message. The file (a BMP) *is*
definitely good.

Have tried backtracking to an earlier Detonator and no joy; can't see any
way of reverting to an earlier DirectX, so am hoping someone can suggest a
way of sorting things out with the drivers I have.

Other info:

* Have tried running a Repair on Delphi from the setup CD - no joy.

* I can load BMPs into TImages' Picture property just fine.

* At runtime TImageList.AddMasked works (I'm using this as a stopgap to let
me get new images into a form, via manual cut and paste) - this is what
makes me think it's a IDE rather than VCL problem.

Any suggestions for fixing this problem would be very much appreciated!

TIA,
Ian

Heh, which game requires DX9? ;)

Sounds familiar - coworker had similar errors after installing
Envision2, fixed them by unregistering Envision .bmp support in IDE
(define in .INC)

All part of a naively optimistic policy of installing the latest MS
updates/patches as soon as they become available. After all, they're the
latest versions so they're *bound* to be more reliable, right? :-)

Aha - excellent catch Danilo! I did install a trial Envision2 package
recently, so will try removing it this evening and see if that sorts things
out. Checking the Envision message board I see that 2 of the 4 most recent
items are from people caught by this same problem! From Google searches I'd
incorrectly assumed my problem had the same general cause as a rash of
idential errors that occurred when D4 was released - and drivers were the
cause back then.

Thanks,
Ian

FYI, got back, removed the Envision2 stuff and my TImageLists are now
working again! Thanks again to you, Danilo, and a hard Paddingtom stare to
Interval Software for releasing something that had such side effects.

Cheers,
Ian
