I have run into the same thing. My solution was as follows:
After making the change to the displayed frame, save it to a temporary file(or use a second imagescrollbox and assign the changed graphic to it), then loop through the image(set the imagescrollbox to invisible for speed) and save the first image, and use append on all subsequent images up to the point of the changed graphic, then append the changed graphic. You can then continue to loop through the rest of the original file and append those to it. Not a very pretty solution i know, but it worked for me. I know there is also a way to do it using streams in somewhat the same manner, but i have not had enough experience working with streams to devise a solution yet. I am sure Michel can help you better with this, just thought i would throw in my 2 cents.
