I have not exposed in the TImageScrollBox the ability to do this. All the annotations in the image scroll box are controlled by the TAnnotationMouseHandler class in EnAnnota.Pas.

The best starting point is to look at the EnAnnota.Pas unit. You will see that annotations are managed by a class called TAnnotationsEditor in the unit EnAnEdit.Pas. What you should do is use the TAnnotationsEditor directly to programmatically create annotations. By looking at the EnAnnota and EnAnEdit units you will see how the annotations are added. For example, see TAnnotationMouseHandler.AddNote.

The only annotation that can have a transparent background is the TRectangleMark. See the Highlight property.

For the updates, yes, all version 2 updates will be free.
