Subject: Tiffreadencodedstrip error

I have a program that is scanning from a cannon 3060 scanner using envision version 1 on a P4 1.5 mhz. running win2000. And everything seemed to be working fine until we decided to downsize our images from 256 grayscale to black&white to save space. The problem is that we are getting images in tif files that error out with the message
ETiffError TIFFReadEncodedStrip.
Any help in what could be causing these arbitrary errors to crop up?
Also what is the max number of pages you can store in a Tiff?

Any help would be a great help.
Joe Miller
