Subject: Re: How save BW image as JPEG?
In reply to: Michel 's message, "Re: How save BW image as JPEG?" on 17:41:49 05/31/01 Thu

I realize this is not necessarily a good idea but the images we are scanning here need to be in a format that can be accessed via a web interface. The customer specifically requested the .jpg format. Basically these are black and white documents with signatures that are being scanned for historical reasons (eliminating a paper trail that is hard to go back and find for proof of signature). The barcode on the document is a number that is being used in a different system for tracking purposes against clients. When there is a dispute they want to be able to lookup that number and then go into this system to reference the image of the original document and be able to print/fax the copy as proof of the transaction. They don't want to have to sift through paper documents unless they have to.

Is there a better format that I should be trying to convince them to use? TIFF is out as they already said that was a definite NO. They opted for JPEG for it's versatility. Image quality is not that important as long as the document is readable. Although better quality is good of course.

Thanks for your help. I will give that a try tonight to see how that works out.
