Get him before the age of ~26 for pick 1, 2, 6 and 17... (or for Nick D).

or

Get him as a free agent for nothing but salary cap space when he is ~27.

Those are our choices.

I'm of course 100% behind the latter.

The former makes no sense, and won't happen. Even if he demanded to come back to Vic at age 24, west coast would demand the above listed riches in a trade. Which would not be worth it for us nor any other side.

For now, we'll be better off chasing clever free agency gets like Sam Taylor, who is approaching that age/time. Or trading for Bailey Smith and giving up little in terms of draft picks if we can take on a lot of salary, i.e. by taking Lobb too (and buying his salary off the Dogs' books to make them more willing to trade Smith).
