Subject: Freaks in Numbers …we’ve got them

How lucky are we to have such a batch of uniquely talented , long serving players ?
Pendles …invariably unhurried , ball winning ( 31 touches yesterday at 37 !) non stop running , match saving/winning , play creating ball user and on field director of operations . Brownlow boy

Sidey …from day one has set training distance standards for fellow players . He has been there setting a unique example of non stop ground coverage and demonstrating exactly what an all round game means — excellence by foot and hand on either side , safe marking and effective tackling . Two Anzac Medals almost a decade apart

Elliot - 178 cm marking target up forward who ( imho ) may have been a star midfielder were he not required near goals in this group . Freak leap, great hands, beautiful straight kick and both quick and clever on the ground who has triumphed over adversity , overcoming a mix of significant health and injury challenges and now at 32 still doing it with 5 majors yesterday

Howe …differs from the others in that maybe he was seen as a failed forward from the Dees …yet both there and with us he has still been the most watchable and (with us) the most consistent overhead mark on the competition for around a decade . Toss in his excellent running athleticism, his exceptional courage (would any poster here fancy returning to footy at any level after an arm fracture that saw the forearm fracture pierce the skin ….and subsequently infected at the fracture site …but he did in the same season 2023 and at 34 is keeping on keeping on again starring yesterday ) . I haven’t mentioned his superb deep delivery on either side

4 unique footy freaks how lucky have we been to see them in our team at the same time

Looking across the competition now and back in recent times some teams have one or two
Cats ( Not really the same in terms of long serving one club champs) , Tigers ( once Dusty was gone so were they) , Dees ( Trav was the one genuine superstar and Gawn was dominant ) …..and that Lions team which won 3 on end had quite a few with the odd bruiser tossed in to sweeten the deal
But there are 4 pure Pie ball players who each possess almost the entire mix of abilities
How lucky have we been as supporters?
( hope “ some” of the next Gen of Pies have the acumen to learn something )
