Subject: Watching VFL PIES v Dons under lights

Who stands out ?
Jaith — he has this mix…athleticism, speed, spring, ball and play reading and sound delivery . He can’t be far off although he is lean

Oleg…fit, strong fast and involved constantly
Realistically a player of his size and experience should be asked to do more eg play in a more demanding role like on baller

West…really like the look of him . Mobile, willing, robust for a kid in yr 1 , uses both feet unhesitatingly . A physical comparison ? — a young Tex Walker
He can take a strong mark . Don’t rush him in but if it needs to be done , he can’t be other than a third tall up forward for NOW . Several times his unsuccessful leaps for marks saw him in a “ towering” position , but he was spoiled
Like Membrey and Checkers he competes well at ground level

Who else caught the eye ? ( bearing in mind the ever readiness of posters to favour the expression
“ No AFL senior level ready qualities observed “

Here goes ( to 1/2 time )

Allen gets touches but often in crushes and deliveries to 1/2 time have been scrambled ….put another way …he doesn’t burst clear …yet

Ryan …a few touches so far . Playing BP . Built like a winger / flanker

Dean …FB …tall but nothing noticeable about his footy to half time

Parker …seems to be in the centre …Sharp handball, looks stronger than last year . Has scored a goal . Good user but Insufficiently involved

Steene …just not strong enough atm …yet in close ups he is much bigger than last year …he just doesn’t know how to employ his frame

Hayes…small and unsighted so far ….that having been typed , he just passed to Steene for a score

Harry Di ….not noticeable at all . Missed a gettable set shot from 30

Cox looks sort of befuddled at this messy game level and is ineffectual

Smit is in defence and as I watch in the third is just puzzlingly penalised for shoving Alwyn Davey for a goal . Otherwise I haven’t noticed him

Cochran…
Honestly if these blokes spent as much time fighting for possession as they do appealing to the umpires for free kicks , they might do better .

PS …the umps are slaughtering us

PS 2….for the Poster here who questioned Tom Wilson’s worth , he has earned his keep today

PS ..3 …at 3/4 only for the Dons shocking kicking they’d be in front

At this point I feel that only Cox and West are ready now
Of the others Jiath on a HBF or Wing if there is an injury
