Sydney shot themselves in the foot with this.
I'm not completely against the idea of a COLA but it should have been applied after the fact. That is, Sydney should have had the same salary cap as everyone else and - if it were proven Sydney (the city) did have a higher cost of living - the allowance paid to players after the fact.
Scoring two big name recruits in two years (including a premiership one) looked very much like rorting even if it wasn't.
That said, collingwood should also lose its own cosy little advantage: prime time every week. North invented Friday night footy. Time to give it back.
