Subject: AFL drug summit - strike three

I cannot for the life of me understand any justification for a three strikes rule for illicit drug use. It is nonsensical policy.
The only message it sends is: you can f#ck up as much as you like until you are caught twice, and ONLY THEN do you need to grow up and stop acting like a f#ckwit.
Personally, I believe getting the chance to play at the highest level of this great game is such an amazing honour, that to disrespect that by using illegal drugs is spitting in the face of supporters of each club, many of whom struggle to afford the cost of being a member (or family ticket).
Of course many people here have a different view on that, and that's fine. Whether using illegal drugs is disrespectful in this context, pissweak or just plain stupid is open to debate, and I accept that.
And of course, young men are prone to making mistakes which they are then obliged to learn from (if they are not killed by the mistake beforehand).
However, if a player is caught using illicit drugs ONCE then surely that's a big red flag that they should f#cking take a good hard look at themselves AND STOP. It's not that hard to work out.
So why the f#ck do they require a third chance to f#ck up before getting they get the message that this is simply not on?
This is not about being hard or soft on drug addicts. On an emotional level I'd want to start belting drug users around the ears with a stick for their epic failure of the natural selection test.
No, it's about the LOGIC of having three strikes. Why three? Why not four? It makes no sense whatsoever.
Addicts need treatment but not in the AFL system. The AFL's job in this regard is to prevent young men exposing themselves to addiction in the first place.
