they recorded that song in portland oregon as I recall, sometime in 1998. i remember because they stayed at my house after a show with stereolab and recorded down the street early the next morning... it was a full band. i don't remember everyone's names but everyone was really gracious. alan licht and dave played guitar. pajo stayed up all night and woke everyone up at 8 in the morning to record the song at a basement studio down the street. then they drove to seattle. excellent song!
