Sometimes you can see things from one angle that you'll completely miss from others, even if you're closer. It happens.

And now you know -- always bring extra batteries. Lots of 'em, and make sure they're all freshly charged if they're rechargeables. Maybe even bring a second camera, just in case. I always bring two cameras, mostly because one has a nice zoom lens and higher resolution, but the older one is better in low light without flash, which gives me that option, plus I keep a small extra camera case filled with extra batteries and media cards, complete with a little plastic bag to put discharged batteries into so they don't get mixed up with the fresh ones. One GotR concert and usually around 250 photos of James and the guys later (and a couple pairs of batteries drained), I go home happy. Must preserve the Pookiness for posterity, after all.
