My name is Peter Wilstermann, independent animator and producer and I am looking for some creative writer to collaborate with me in the making of a short animated movie for the internet and (if good enough) video. Some time ago Iīve started a project called "The Yellow House" which is no more than a short animation featuring music of talented musician and composer Till Mertens (Germany), and other few illustrators and animators. This short comes from the never-accomplished dream of painter Vincent Van Gogh of having this community of avant-garde artists reunited in one single place called the Yellow House in Arles, France, frustrated by a series of events with painter Paul Gauguin which led to the famous episode of Vincentīs earcut. But let me explain myself a little better:

Please click the link below to watch the trailer of my project (or paste it in your address space):
<a rel=nofollow target=_blank href="http://sho.com/alt/channelpage.cfm?pagenum=5&genrecode=DRA&sortby=SUBMIT_DATE&sorder=DESC">http://sho.com/alt/channelpage.cfm?pagenum=5&genrecode=DRA&sortby=SUBMIT_DATE&sorder=DESC</a>

My idea so far is to show some kind of heart-warming story when Vincent "returns" to Arles after many, many years (this wonīt be a sci-fi movie per se but you could tell by the changes in the surroundings that this returning would take place at some point in the future) in order to fix that frustrated dream in his past. This not-so-nice future world has little room for sensible souls and art, at least the traditional concept of it, has been almost forgotten. We can see Vincent arriving to Arles by train and walking to the place where the Yellow House used to be and ... the events that will occur from now on are my greatest problem, I have thought of many ways to tell a short story that would captive the viewer from this scratch and none of them really convinces me, there are a few guidelines I think I have clear:

- Vincent Van Gogh has both of his ears and his appearance is as you can see in the trailer.

- This will be more of a drama story, it wont be a sci-fi movie as we are used to see (no spaceships, no strange creatures, no technogadgets). IMPLY and SUGGEST are the keywords here, so no "Arles, France 2095" signs at the start of the movie. To help you understand my concept of "suggest" I have thought of this scene:
Vincent walks by a dark street when suddenly a loud roar start to build up in the air, Vincent stares at the sky and you see him involved in a very bright light while he covers his ears because of the loud noise, the bright light passes out and the noise dissappears slowly and so remaining echoes. You never saw what was it, you only saw Vincentīs reaction but you could guess it was some sort of big craft passing nearby.

- Atmosphere will be very moody with the great help of Till Mertens at piano and this slow and melancholic pace will be the background thru most of the short. The song lasts 4 mins 30 seconds, available upon request.

- The twist of the story or "the heart-warming surprise" is that particular thing Iīm looking for. I have reserved some delicate notes of the piano at the end of the song, just before the final notes comes in, so, I want to touch some fibers with this, not really make you cry but get you tear-eyed would be nice ;)

- I have a vague idea of a story, something like Vincent gets to where the yellow house was, but now is an old inn where he passes the night and where he meets the son of the owners (a late teen boy?), you see Vincent painting in some hills with this curious boy by his side day after day so Vince realizes this boy has the hidden ability of being an artist too, Vincent realizes why he is back to this place as he gives the boy the "bless" of being an artist in that obscure world so the yellow house is "revived" somehow by this boy. When the boy is "ready" Vincent is no longer in his room, misteriously fainted, but now the boy gets the ability (and the tools?) to be a painter and continue what Vincent Van Gogh left incomplete... the stablishment of the Yellow House.
I kind of like this idea basics: 1- Vincent comes back as some sort of angel to make his dream a reality. 2- Vincent meets a young rookie. 3- The rookie gets motivated and so begins a new "renaissence" era with the yellow house as pivot. 4- Van Gogh completes his task and is no longer seen. This story is OK, but for me, lacks more substance, perhaps this is just too lineal and predictable, or maybe is the story of another movie, I really dont know, but it just dont make it for me, is not a "woow" or "aaawwww" thing I want for this project, I want something to remember, a short story where the viewer (artist or not) gets identified with, and with a twist in it... with a point when you see and say "..hey... that's beautiful..." and your voice gets choked in emotion when you tell it to others.

I know it's not easy and that's why I'm asking for help in this writers forum, I know there are some talented people out there that could make out a beautiful story for this. All I can offer is my most serious credit retribution as I have gave the other members of this production, a good, impecable piece of animation with great graphics, great music and hopefully a great story in order to be at some animation festivals with this great material and start creating a name in the industry.

Please dont hesitate to write me if you have any question: pwilster@hotmail.com

Thank you for your attention.

Peter Wilstermann
