- the girl enters, eyeing these feirce-looking predators. she begins to run, her bedraggled clothing fluttering along with her. her matted hair flies wildly about, as she had no brush to fix it with. her foot strikes upon a stone and she trips, lying sprawled upon the dew-soaked ground. using her feet to kick about, she finally regains her footing, but not before gaining a few large cuts on her legs. she arises from the ground, yet continues on, finally halting in the shadowy foliage. spotting a small rabbit, she pulls out a bow and arrow, aiming with precision at her target. the string 'twangs' as the arrow is let to fly, killing the rabbit instantly. immediately she retreives the small rodent, pulling the bloody arrow from its flesh, and heading off into the woods with it. she gathers sticks and begins a fire, skewering her food over the open flames. finally, she finishes her meal and collects her things, readying to leave. the girl heads back out into the open, spying the wolf pack once more. she meant no harm unto them...and would be quite willing to help them if they suffered from starvation and such. her feet begin to move rapidly as the girl steals off into the shadows once more. -

-The leader shrugged, a female who changed her mind too readily wasn't good for the pack, and this one was a bit too fickle. He nudges his mate, who returns everyone to the cave, to settle in against the cold. He himself lays sphinx-like near the entrance, waiting for anything, and keeping watch.-

-Ada goes to see Maple, bulging with pups and quite restless. Ignoring the leaps and scuffles of her own children, the matriarch's sweet side is revealed as she sits by the struggling beta. Gently, she licks Maple's muzzle and whines commiseratingly.-

-Echo paces and jumps, growling at nothing. His mate's cries spring at him, and he sits almost listlessly as she leaves the group surrounding her for the cave's depths. Following would be stupid, so he lowers his head and waits.-

-The pups kick Maple strongly in her belly, and she growls annoyedly at them. She needed to get away from them, and she needed dark. Staying in the dark, she begins to feel better, and lets nature take its course.-

- Poplar, full of moose meat and content as a little clam, flops on his back and snores. Tides sits resolutely by her mother, while Campion piles on his brother to sleep. They were gangly, loosing their little cuteness. Tides hears strange cries from the back of the cave, and she waits by her mother for things to do.-

From the back pads Maple, a proud and tired look upon her face. She brings her brood out one by one, and there are four of them. Two are an inky black females highlited with silvery gray, twins at most. Nightshade and Lantur, Maple named them. The pack huffed agreement and welcomed them into the world.The third is deeply russet colored, his head a mixture of fine whitish red and black markings. Strawberry, the approved name rang through.The fourth is a dove gray, soft and sweet looking. She is by far the largest, and carries no markings. She would be Chinchilla. Letting Echo approach momentarily, she quickly rebuffs him with warning snapas and snarls and settles down to nurse them. The rest of the pack resumes their doings, pups could be greeted in time.

-Seeing his chance to further accustom to the new area, he rises and motions to Ada. They would travel, now. Not too far, just to find an ideal den site.-

-Nodding, she calls her adolescent pups to her side, and trots at a swinging gait after Stonefur. They needed a better place to stay the winter through, a warmer place. She nods indulgently at the pups that frolic before her. Tides stays at her side, head up as regal as can be.-

-Echo takes a back position, carefully watching his mate. She grew with pups every day now, and needed a den to have them in. Would it be as hard on her if they left? He swings along beside her as support, oblivious to any sort of snapping.-

-She brings up the rear, the growing little ones in her belly slowing her up a bit, but not too much yet. It would be awhile more before she became completely dependent on the pack for her sustenance.-

A little way from the downed moose, Poplar disappears into a thicket. As he goes to reprimand his son, Stonefur catches sight of something wondrous. A cave, concealed in thickets, low and perfect. He slinks in, the briars tearing slightly at his fur. There were no other occupants, but the bones of some long dead thing showed that it had once been home to something. There was room for twelve, no, twenty animals here! Smiling to himself, he calls his pack to him. They would move in.

Hunt -- The Blue Pine Pack, 11:54:52 10/20/01 Sat
-Away from the rest of the wolves, from the crowding and space, the huge leader brings his pack to the secluded space. He howls to claim it as their own, which was rather redundant in a way. Smirking, he marks the area, mapping it out to himself. Soon, an enticing scent reaches his nostrils, he hadn't eaten in awhile....-

-Listening, she becomes aware that the place contained somehing large moving through the underbrush, crashing and bowling among the branches. Gathering up the pups, she notices how large they have become, soon they could assist in hunting. Her massive black son Poplar approaches the size of a yearling, even at 8 months. She nudges her mate, perhaps the pack could go hunt the thing in the forest?-

-Echo rises, able to keen in on the game it could be. A young, perhaps sick moose calf. A loner, without it's protecting, horned and hooved herd. He nudges Maple and then pads to Stonefur for a report.-

-Maple whines a bit placatingly, knowing if they go, the pups will be left in her charge. She is pleasantly surprised when Ada gives the command for all to go, and readily accepts the challenege of a hunt.-

-Tides bounds about, cajoling and bullying Campion. She would finally be able to hunt, something she had wanted to do for ages. Campion raises his head, taking place by his father. Poplar rears and bounds, excited that they were going out, and taking him too.-

Quieting the rest, Stonefur allows Echo to lead the procession, his senses were keenest, and the rangy one could be a slithering shadow among the foliage. Loping ahead, the black wolf searches for signs of the prey. When he sights the wandering, clumbering moose calf, Echo turns excitedly back to his pack. She was blinded, and almost weak with hunger and sickness, but big enough to feed the whole pack. Stonefur nods, and the lighter females, Ada and Maple, leap forward to attack and worry her. Tides follows in clumsily, Campion at her heels.

Snarling and clenching, Ada reaches the creature's windpipe, bravely absorbing the angry thing's throes. Maple slashes open a haunch, disabling her backward movement. The young calf falls to her knees when Tides begins to assault the nose, irritating nips. The sickened young thing tries to charge, enraged despite her ailments. Campion races back and enters with the males, who weight the creature, adding force to everything else. They smothered the calf, and soon her movements quiet. Poplar, at a spot between the creature's shoulderblades, holds on obstinately. Ignoring him, the wolves feast where the prey had fallen, singing a song that is part victory, and part gratitude.
