September approaches and with it, hopefully, some nice cool dry weather. Those of you with Newfs, plan on attending Fall Fun Day Sat 10/9 at Downs Park in Pasadena, MD. Sat 9/11 11am- 4pm ANNAPOLIS, MD: The Anne Arundel Co. SPCA is having their 2nd annual dog wash which includes a brush, wash, rinse and towel dry. The cost is $10 for dogs under 20lbs, $15 for 21- 60lbs and $20 for those 61 lbs and more. You're asked to bring your own towels. http://www.aacspca.org/calendar/

If you ever thought you might want to try tossing a flying disc for Rover to catch, this is the place to go (especially since you can taste some wine to make you brave) or else just marvel at the high-flying antics of the participants. If you have shade, bring it, since this is held on a grassy field and the shadow of a barn provides the only natural shade available close-by. However there is a pond a short walk away for your pooch to take a dip.

Sat 9/11 2-6pm, HERNDON, VA: Herndon Dogs http://www.herndondogs.org/ is having their 2nd Annual Membership Appreciation Potluck Pooch Pool Party at the Courts of Chandon. Dogs get to swim in the pool while people get to eat but you have to be a Herndon Dogs member to attend.

Sat 9/18 11am- 3pm, MILLERSVILLE, MD: Don't miss the 4th Annual Parade of Paws at Kinder Farm Park put on by the Mid Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League http://www.magdrl.org/Parade04.htm . Tons of things going on including CGC/TDI testing, games, vendors, tricks class, demos, nail trimming booth & rescue groups. They have pavilions so it's held rain or shine. We've gone every year and always had a wonderful time.

Sat 9/18 7- 11pm GAITHERSBURG, MD: The Gaithersburg Washingtonian Marriott is the site for Montgomery Co. Humane Society's Dances With Dogs http://www.danceswithdogs.net/. A lavish menu,open bar, live music, auctions, contests and more await you for the $100/ticket admission price. Cocktail attire for humans and dogs can wear what they want.

Sun 9/19 10am- 4pm, COCKEYSVILLE, MD: Oregon Ridge Park is the location for Dog's Day in the Park Not much is on the website http://animalrescueinc.org/ but it's been a fairly big deal in the past with food, vendors, fun etc.

Sun 9/19 1130am, ANNAPOLIS, MD: Watch the BIG dogs get off the porch at the Potomac Valley Irish Wolfhound Club's Fun Match http://www.pviwc.org/FunMatch.html.

Fri-Sun, 9/24- 26, LEESBURG, VA: Three days of AKC All Breed & Obedience dog shows at the Morven Park Equestrian Center by the Warrenton Kennel Club http://www.infodog.com/clubs/2004000403.HTM and Old Dominion KC http://www.infodog.com/clubs/2004003202.HTM .

Sat 9/25 9am, RESTON, VA: A staggering seventy-five dollar (yes, you read it right- $75) minimum donation is requested by the Lost Dog & Cat Foundation for you to participate in a 5K dog walk http://lostdogrescue.org/run5k.asp around Lake Fairfax Park. For that amount you should get a chaffeured limousine ride at the very least.

Held on a spacious enclosed outdoor terrace every Tues and Thurs from 5-8pm (often runs later) from April through Oct, this is a remakable combination of Happy Hour and happy dogs. Free and cheap snacks (ie, all-you-can-eat wings $1.95, shrimp $4.95) and a farm wagon piled high with dog yummies combine with booze to make this a memorable social outing for people and canines alike. Dress ranges from cut-offs and a Tshirt to business attire and street parking can be easily found.

2nd Thurs of each month ALEXANDRIA, VA: Dogs can join you on a 40 minute cruise of the Potomac River on the Miss Christin of the Potomac Riverboat Co http://www.potomacriverboatco.com/charter/MissChristin/index.html (one of the most difficult to navigate & least informative websites I've seen in a long while) which makes no mention of dogs being invited or the cruise times ( 6pm, 7pm, 8pm, 9pm ) or the price, ($8).
