Sat 5/4 930am-1 pm, FAIRFAX, VA: Rover Romp-walk, reunion picnic for NoVa SPCA http://www.spcanova.org/events.htm#roverromp

Sat 5/4 9 am -? , ALEXANDRIA, VA: Doggie Derby/ Romp For The Roses, Animal Welfare League of Alexandria http://alexandriaanimals.org/~awla/special_events.cfm or call (703) 838-4775 ext 317 which I strongly recommend as the web site is curiously bereft of information. Held at Ben Brenman Park, 5000 Duke St. Alexandria has a vigorous and quirky dog contingent and this event reflects that. Many unusual dog games-julep slurp (ice cream eating contest), puppy polo, romp for the roses etc, a Parade of Hats with numerous categories, vendors, displays, and more. Free parking, $20 pre-reg, $25 on-site, spectators free. We're going to this one.

Sun 5/5 11 am-2pm, REISTERSTOWN, MD: Adoptathon/Picnic/Blessing of Animals/Rescue Groups-The Humane Society of Baltimore Co hosts this one. They don't say so on their website http://www.hsbcanimals.org/events.htm but I'm sure they'll have some other stuff, too. Warning: If bran muffins and veggie burgers don't do it for you don't count on the picnic for sustenance.

Sun 5/5 1-3 pm, ANNAPOLIS, MD: Humane Sunday Celebration, Anne Arundel SPCA alumni reunion, but all are invited for fun activities http://aacspca.org/calendar/. I went to one of these several years ago and had the joy of seeing an English Bulldog win the dog/celebrity look-a-like for his striking resemblence to Roseanne.

Th 5/10-Sun 5/12 SPRINGFIELD/FAIRFAX, VA: Dog Scouts of America Mini Camp-this sounded intriguing, albeit costly. Try figuring out the details at http://dogscouttroop.com/111/ and http://dogscouts.com if you're interested. Good luck.

Sat 5/11 830 am -1230 pm, ARLINGTON, VA: Walk for the Animals of the Animal Welfare League of Arlington http://www.awla.org/wallk02.htm. There's got to be more to it than the website admits.

Sat 5/11 11am-3pm, GREENBELT, MD: Pet Expo at Greenbelt Community Center, 15 Crescent RD Greenbelt MD. Rescue groups, pet-related service providers, demonstrations(agility, flyball, canine musical training), humane trainers, certified acupuncturist, animal psychic and more! Dogs, cats, parrots, reptiles, guinea pigs, ferrets, etc. Get your Prince George's county pet licenses and Greenbelt dog park permits. Rabies clinic will be held the same day.

***SPECIAL EVENT***
Sat 5/18 1- 4pm, PASADENA, MD: Bark In The Park, Downs Park, 8311 John Downs Loop, Pasadena, MD 21122 (410) 222-6230. A festival of dogs, rescue groups, vendors etc in a beautiful park on the Chesapeake that also boasts a dog beach.
Featuring a NEWF ROMP n' SWIM!!! at 2pm on the easily accessible pale sands and glittering waters of the Main Beach... UNLEASHED! Sociable Newfoundlands (only Newfs on the beach, but alternative varieties can come and walk around) are invited to participate, but please let me know if you're interested.
This is a one-time only opportunity to let your Newf enjoy this wonderful beach thanks to the efforts of Ranger Stacey and special dispensation from Park administration.

Sat 5/18 10am-?, FREDERICK, MD: Walk and Wag held at Baker Park, benefits the Frederick Co. Humane Society. So far the web sites http://www.fchs.org/calendar.html#walk and http://www.bestoffrederick.com/walknwag/walknwag.htm remain relatively detail-free, but it appears a Frisbee dog competition is there also http://skyhoundz.com/localchampionships.html

Sat 5/18 7 pm -?, WASHINGTON, DC: Bark Ball-Admit it...you always wanted to wear your off white crepe de chine evening gown and dance with your Newfoundland. Well, for a mere $200 you can and also enjoy a sit-down dinner in lavish surroundings. Did I mention you can bring your dog? The Washington Humane Society takes an innovative approach to fundraising with this fascinating canine/human social occasion http://www.barkball.com/.

Sun 5/19 8 am -12 N, ANNAPOLIS, MD: Walk For The Animals-This is another BIG one, dogs as far as the eye can see. Booths, vendors, freebies etc. As usual, you don't actually have to register and walk; you can just wander around and enjoy the festivities. The bonus is the Dog Beach and fully fenced Dog Park also located at the Quiet Waters Park site. Anne Arundel Co. SPCA http://www.aacspca.org/walk/.

Sun 5/19 930am-130pm, ROCKVILLE, MD: Half day hike and swim at Lake Frank (off Avery Rd, NE of Rockville) put on by Washington Women Outdoors http://washingtonwomenoutdoors.org/Hiking.htm#FurryFriendsHalf-DayHike. There's a limit of 10 dogs, so if you're interested, sign up early. Do the humans have to be female? I don't know. Do the dogs have to be female? I don't know that either.

*Sun 5/19 PURCELLVILLE, VA : Dog Day at Breaux Vineyards. Dogs get to parade around the winery green and win prizes; presumably their people can slurp wine. http://breauxvineyards.com/ go to calendar and scroll down.

Sun 5/19 & Mon 5/20 8am-5pm WESTMINSTER, MD: All breed conformation. Hosted by Carroll Kennel Club http://www.infodog.com/clubs/2002014901.HTM

Every Tu and Th 5-8 pm ALEXANDRIA, VA: Yappy Hour- Go to http://oldtownhis.com for exact address and phone #. Held on a spacious enclosed outdoor terrace every Tues and Thurs from 5-8pm (often runs later)through Oct, this is a remakable combination of Happy Hour and happy dogs. Free and cheap snacks (ie, all-you-can-eat wings $1.95, shrimp $4.95) and a farm wagon piled high with dog yummies combine with booze to make this a memorable social outing for people and canines alike. Dress ranges from cut-offs and a Tshirt to business attire and street parking can be found easily.

Every Fri 7pm - ? ANNAPOLIS, MD: Newf Stroll at the City Dock, weather permitting.

May Dog Events is also posted at http://voy.com/52810/ , a free and easy to use bulletin board site. That way you can just bookmark it instead of saving/printing this. However, the links don't seem to work. -Xavier
