Subject: Annapolis/Balto/DC Area July '05 Dog Events

As usual, there's not much happening in July that's strictly dog related. However, many of the local parks have concert series that you can take your dog to and both of you can enjoy the music and a picnic. Lake Accotink, VA and Quiet Waters Park, MD are just two of the sites that welcome (or at least tolerate) your canine friend, and there's a free concert following the 3pm Newf Romp n' Swim at Downs Park in Pasadena, MD on 7/24. Also check out Recurring Events (below) for fun things like Yappy Hours and the Newf Stroll.

Fri- Mon 7/1-7/4, BEL ALTON, MD: The Blue Crab Cluster is four days worth of all breed, obedience and rally obedience dog shows at the Charles Co. Fairgrounds hosted by the Southern Md Kennel Club and Rock Creek Kennel Club http://infodog.com/panels/md.htm (scroll down to date).

Mon 7/4 10am- 12noon, BALTIMORE, MD: Visionary Pets on Parade • Registration at 9:30am. Animal fun! Animal prizes for lots of silly things, which always includes a costume contest, the more bizarre the better. Free. Lots of water thoughtfully provided. Hosted by the American Visionary Arts Museum (AVAM) http://avam.org/cgi-bin/Events.cgi (scroll down to date) in Federal Hill, this place is Weird Central of Baltimore. You'll see things here (ie grass growing on a pink car) you'll never see anywhere else. Bouffant hairdos, feather boas and rhinestone encrusted stretch pants will abound and the female contingent will be even more colorful.

Sun 7/4 5:15pm, ANNAPOLIS, MD: The Crabtown Canines will be marching in the 4th of July parade. It is $6 per registrant (Please register by June 27th!). You receive a great t-shirt, a bandana for your dog as well as water. The group is meeting at 5:15 out at the Circle (the new Circle at Taylor Avenue) on West Street. Parade begins at 6PM and ends down by the dock. Any money left over goes to the SPCA. For Crabtown Canine info, stop by Paws at 64 State Circle or call Michelle at 410-263-8683; for the 4th of July celebration details go to http://www.annapolis.gov/headlines.asp?ID=7716 .

Th 7/7-Sun 7/10, WEST FRIENDSHIP, MD: Howard County Fairgrounds is the site for the Independence Cluster, four AKC all breed and obedience dog shows on one site starting Th through Sun, many vendors. Huge. Be aware that water is hard to find at these things for some reason. Bring your own, or a collapsible bowl and fill up in the restrooms. http://www.infodog.com/panels/md.htm

Sat 7/9 HANOVER, PA: Colonial Newf Club's water practice at Codorus State Park http://www.cncnewfs.com/Calendar.shtml

Mon 7/11 6pm, FREDERICK, MD: Take your dog to the baseball game (game starts at 705pm) and watch the Frederick Keys play the Lynchburg Hillcats. Pre and post game doggie activities include a chance to run the bases with your dog. Sun 7/24 3pm, PASADENA, MD: NEWF ROMP n' SWIM! Turn your hot, hairy Newf loose on the golden sands of the Dog Beach at Downs Park to splash in the refreshing waters of the Chesapeake Bay and frolic with other Newfs.
