Despite the frantic holiday season and cold weather, there's actually some fun dog happenings this month. All kinds of places are also offering pet photos with Santa, way too many for me to list. Sun 12/1, 10 am, PATAPSCO VALLEY STATE PARK, MD: Easy hike along the Patapsco River with CHAOS, Chesapeake Hiking and Outdoor Society http://jenzakayaker.tripod.com/CHAOS/id3.html, dogs welcome and can be off-leash where conditions permit. Meet at Grauls in Annapolis at 10 am.

Sun 12/1, 5 pm, ANNAPOLIS, MD: Grand Illumination of the downtown Annapolis Christmas tree at the city dock. Tree lighting takes place at 6pm but the festivities are bound to start earlier.The website http://www.theannapolisjaycees.org/upevents.htm is strangely bereft of any times. Santa Claus, music (by Big Dog productions), hot cocoa, cookies, miscellaneous items for sale, and lots of pretty sights to see.

Sat 12/7, 830 am, WILLIAMSBURG, VA: Colonial Newfoundland Club marches in the Christmas Parade as part of the Grand Illumination Festivities. Carts and costumes encouraged. Sun 12/15, 12 noon, PASADENA, MD: ROMP n' SWIM!! Take a break from the holiday madness and do something fun with your poor, neglected dog. Downs Park Dog Beach (tucked away in the northeast corner of the park at 8311 John Downs Loop, Pasadena, Md 21122), is the site of a sandy beach for roughhousing and the Chesapeake Bay for water games, all off-leash. Go to their website http://web.aacpl.lib.md.us/rp/parks/dp/index.html for other park attractions, directions and park map or email me. There is a $4/car park admission fee (or $20 annual permit). Since this is outside in December, it's weather-dependent, so email me if you have any doubts.
