Subject: April '03 Baltimore/DC/Annapolis Dog Events

At last the snow is gone and spring is here! A lot is going on to celebrate the arrival of better weather, including a NEWF ROMP n' SWIM on April 12th and a NEWF INVASION of Doggie Happy Hour on April 1st. If you're planning to go to any of these events, check the website before you go because sometimes (rarely) they cancel at the last minute.

Sun 3/30 11am-2pm, BALTIMORE, MD: March for the Animals held by the MD SPCA http://www.mdspca.org/walkathon/details.htm at the Johns Hopkins University Homewood campus. This one is HUGE; last year they had over 2500 participants. You don't have to walk the pleasant 1.5 mi route, just come and enjoy the games, vendors, entertainment, food, demos, micro-chipping and especially the sights! And yes, there's free parking.

Sun & Mon, 3/30 & 3/31 8am-4pm, ANNAPOLIS, MD: The Potomac Valley Irish Wolfhound Club http://www.pviwc.org/Specialty.html has their regional specialty at Quiet Waters Park.

Tues 4/1 5-8pm, ALEXANDRIA, VA: No foolin', Doggie Happy Hour http://doggiehappyhour.com/ resumes at the Holiday Inn Select in Old Town every Tues & Th from 5-8pm through October (more details in Recurring Events below). Enjoy the pup treats, people treats and special prices along with the incredible ambiance of a courtyard filled with excited dogs. Join the NEWF INVASION planned for opening day, weather permitting. If you can get there early to beat the traffic, dog-friendly Old Town provides a pleasant locale for a stroll.

Any dog can come and other activities will be going on.

Procrastinate some more and let your Newfs scramble around off-leash with others of their kind on the golden sands and in the sparkling waters of the Chesapeake Bay. The dogs will be tired and happy and you'll laugh yourself silly watching them. There's a $4 admission (or $20 annual pass) to the park, but it's a beauty- right on the Bay, miles of trails, playground and real bathrooms. Held on a spacious enclosed outdoor terrace every Tues and Thurs from 5-8pm (often runs later) from April through Oct, this is a remakable combination of Happy Hour and happy dogs. Free and cheap snacks (ie, all-you-can-eat wings $1.95, shrimp $4.95) and a farm wagon piled high with dog yummies combine with booze to make this a memorable social outing for people and canines alike. Dress ranges from cut-offs and a Tshirt to business attire and street parking can be easily found.
