Subject: Annapolis/Baltimore/DC Area Aug '04 Dog Events

The Dog Days of summer are upon us and conversely there's little to do with your dog, just too hot. A few bright spots, but things won't really start to roll again until Sept. Remember the many free concerts going on in the cooler evenings at various parks that welcome (or at least tolerate) your dog.

Don't forget the Newf Romp n' Swim on Sat 8/21/04, 1pm at beautiful Downs Park in Pasadena, MD.

Tu 8/3, 6- 8pm, NATIONWIDE: Petsmart is having a Paw Print Party where you can have your dog's paw print taken and framed. They've been handing out coupons for free "Keepsake Frame" with your register receipt. Refreshments provided for pets & humans.

Sat 8/7, 11am- 4pm, FAIRFAX, VA: Not just a dog wash anymore, it's a Dog Spa including bathing, nail trims, ear trimming, canine massage and digital portraits of your newly gleaming pooch at Weber's Pet Supermarket by SPCA NoVa http://spcanova.org/events.htm . Dog trainer Tony Orange featured on Animal Planet's "Cell Dogs" will also be there.

Sat 8/7 7pm, RESTON, VA: Evening Hound Hike with NoVa Hiking Club in shady Fox Mill District Park http://members.aol.com/nvhc/ (scroll down to date).

Sat & Sun 8/7 & 8/8, 9am- 5pm, HERNDON, VA: At the Fairfax County 4H Fair http://4hfairfax.org/visitors.html held at dog-friendly Frying Pan Park, you can watch the 4Hers put their dogs through their paces in obedience, rally obedience and showmanship beginning at 9am on Sat in the dog show ring (behind the covered arena. As if that isn't enough, there's also a fun pet show with lots of prizes for things like waggiest tail,best costume and biggest ears. On Sun, there's agility and Canine Musical Freestyle. On both days there are horse shows, livestock judging, games, food, rides and much more. Free admission and parking, too. Unbeatable for an outing the whole family will enjoy!

Free and cheap snacks (ie, all-you-can-eat wings $1.95, shrimp $4.95) and a farm wagon piled high with dog yummies combine with booze to make this a memorable social outing for people and canines alike.
