Subject: Dec '04 Dog Events-Annapolis/DC/Baltimore Area

Despite the frantic holiday season and cold weather, there's actually some fun dog happenings this month. In addition, all kinds of places are offering pet photos with Santa, way too many for me to list. Check your local pet store, shelter, vet, pets-on-wheels etc.

A Romp n' Swim on Sun 12/12 at noon will give you a chance to test your cold weather gear and your dog a chance to burn off some pent-up energy.

I'd also like to announce the creation (thanks to the talents of Coral Kutrip) of the Dog Events website http://dogevents.net/.

Fri 12/3 730- 930pm, ALEXANDRIA, VA: Urban hike in Old Town starting at the King St Metro with No Va Hiking Club http://members.aol.com/nvhc/ (scroll down to date).

Sat 12/4 8am, MCLEAN, VA: The McLean Chamber of Commerce host their annual Reindog parade http://www.chamberhub.com/cgi/foxweb.dll/commcale/99profile?caleid=269&cc=GMLCC at Langley Shopping Center.

Sat 12/4, 830 am, WILLIAMSBURG, VA: Colonial Newfoundland Club http://www.cncnewfs.com/Calendar.htm marches in the Christmas Parade as part of the Grand Illumination Festivities, carts and costumes encouraged. Lunch follows the parade at noon in a restaurant near the Days Inn, Richmond Rd where a block of rooms has been reserved for CNC members. We've gone before and had a fine time.

Sat 12/4, PG COUNTY SOMEWHERE: PG Co. Pets On Wheels is holding their annual Christmas Party. Nothing but the date is on the website http://pgpetsonwheels.org/calendar.htm as of yet.

Sat 12/4, COCKEYSVILLE, MD: Join the K9 Trailblazers for their Holiday Hike & Party http://www.k9trailblazers.org/oregon_ridge/oregonridge_120404.htmat Oregon Ridge Park.

Sun 12/5 2pm, SPRINGFIELD, VA: Hound Hike at Wakefield Park around Lake Accotink with No Va Hiking Club http://members.aol.com/nvhc/ (scroll down to date).

Th 12/9 6- 12m, ANNAPOLIS, MD: Midnight Madness I in downtown Annapolis and Maryland Ave isn't really a dog event but usually gets a good canine turnout. The shops stay open until midnight, there's musical entertainment food & refreshments, and parking is free in the Hillman & Gotts garages. You & your pooch can wander around enjoying the scene & pretty decorations.

Sat 12/11 10am- 4pm, GETTYSBURG, PA: Christmas Tree Festival featuring family fun and arts and crafts along with the cart-pulling (or walk-around friendly) dogs of the Colonial Newfoundland Club http://www.cncnewfs.com/Calendar.htm at Seven Springs Tree Farm http://www.sevenspringstrees.com/index.htm.

Sat 12/11 12n, PURCELLVILLE, VA: Holiday Dog Parade in conjunction with the Purcellville Hometown Celebration http://loudounsbest.com/. Line up at Loudoun Valley High School.

Sun 12/12 9am, KINGSVILLE, MD: Take an easy hike with CHAOS http://www.chaoshikers.org/EventSchedule.htm along Gunpowder River at the Jerusalem Mills area of Gunpowder State Park.

Sun 12/12 11am- 2pm, FREDERICK, MD: Annual Howliday Party hosted by GRREAT http://www.grreat.org/calendar.htm featuring food, games, costume parade, gift exchange and photos with Santa.

Sun 12/12, 12 noon, PASADENA, MD: ROMP n' SWIM!! Take a break from the holiday madness and do something fun with your poor, neglected dog. Downs Park Dog Beach (tucked away in the northeast corner of the park at 8311 John Downs Loop, Pasadena, Md 21122), is the site of a sandy beach for roughhousing and the Chesapeake Bay for water games, all off-leash. Go to their website http://www.aacounty.org/RecParks/Parks/downs_park/index.cfm for other park attractions, directions and park map or email me. There is a $5/car park admission fee (or $25 annual permit). Since this is outside in December, it's weather-dependent, so email me if you have any doubts.

Sun 12/12 6pm, REISTERSTOWN, MD: Festival of Lights opening ceremony at the Humane Society of Baltimore Co http://www.hsbcanimals.org/index.asp.

Th 12/16 6- 12m, ANNAPOLIS, MD: Midnight Madness II, see 12/9.
