A Happy New Year to all of you! Too bad there's not much (as usual) going on in January, but still a few things, including a Newf Romp (no swim) on Sat 1/8 at 1pm.

BTW, there's a young brown neutered male Newf in need of a new home; if you're interested, email me for details.

Sat & Sun 1/1-2, GLOUCESTER, VA: RSK's 5th annual NewYear's weight pull http://iwpa.net/calendar.htm . OK, so it's a ways off but if you're interested in these, they're few and far between.

Sun 1/2 9am, WYE ISLAND, MD: Or somewhere on the Eastern Shore of MD, there's a CHAOS hike http://www.chaoshikers.org/EventSchedule.htm.

Sat 1/8 1pm, ARNOLD, MD: NEWF ROMP (without the swim) at the ~3 acre fully fenced Broadneck Dog Park. There's no actual address (or admission fee) for the park. From Rt 50, take Ritchie Hwy (Rt 2) north and turn right on College Parkway. From Rt 100, take Ritchie Hwy (Rt 2) south and turn left on College Parkway. The park entrance is about 3-4 miles down on the right, just after Broadneck High School on the left and opposite a new housing developement. It's easy to miss, so if you find yourself at Cape St Clair Rd, turn around and it'll be about 1/2 mile on the left. Park in the first lot and the dog park is about 1/10 of a mile on the left. If you need more precise directions, email me.

Sat 1/9 11am RESTON, VA: Hound Hike at Twin Branches Nature Trail with the No. Va. Hiking Club http://members.aol.com/nvhc/ .

Sat 1/15 9am- 4pm, LEESBURG, VA: Dog Wash & Bake Sale to benefit Doberman Rescue http://www.dobe.net/events.htm at the Dog School of Leesburg 305 E Market St http://www.thedogschool.com/DDA_Directions.htm

Sat & Sun 1/22 & 1/23, HARRISBURG, PA: Dancing Away Again in Barkaritaville Canine Freestyle Titling Event by World Canine Freestyle http://www.worldcaninefreestyle.org/Events/barkaritaville2005.htm at the Dauphin Dog Training Club http://www.ddtc.org/ .

Mon 1/24 9am- 5pm, WELLSVILLE (NW of YORK) PA: Freestyle Seminar by Carolyn Scott http://www.worldcaninefreestyle.org/Events/barkaritaville2005.htm at the Bella Vista Training Center http://www.bvtrainingcenter.com/ .

Sat & Sun 1/29 & 1/30 10am, TIMONIUM, MD: Don't miss the fabulous World of Pets Expo http://worldofpets.org/ at the MD State Fairgrounds featuring shows, demos, seminars, food and vendors galore. An exciting two day DiscDogathon is featured this year so you can be inspired by talented dogs flying through the air to catch frisbees. Gomez will, once again, be representing the Newfoundland in the Parade of Breeds on Sat at 2pm. We've gone every year they've had it and always had a ball, plus bought a lot of stuff at good prices. Yes, you can take your dog to enjoy it all with you.

Sun 1/30 11am SPRINGFIELD, VA: Hound Hike with No. Va. Hiking Club http://members.aol.com/nvhc/ (scroll down to date) around Lake Mercer, starting at South Run Park.

Sun 2/6 10am- 2pm, LAUREL, MD: Fidos For Freedom offers CGC/TDI testing and a tattoo clinic for those looking for an alternative to Superbowl madness http://www.fidosforfreedom.org/
