Subject: Oct '05 Dog Events-Update
A few changes and additions to Oct '05 Dog Events, and including the rest of the month.
Fri 10/21- Sat 10/22, GETTYSBURG, PA: You can catch the tail end of the St Bernard Club of America's National Specialty http://sbcanational.com/ at the AllStar Events Complex, 2638 Emmittsburg Rd, Gettysburg, PA 724-935-9651. Be advised that most of the 2005 info has disappeared from their website already; look on the right for what still exists.
Fri 10/21 630pm, WASHINGTON, DC: Halloween Howl- Join People Animals Love (PAL) for a masquerade party for both dogs and dog lovers to benefit PAL. Silent auction, cocktails, dinner, dancing and dog costume contest. $125 for Humans. $10 for Dogs. 6:30pm. L'Enfant Plaza Hotel. http://www.halloweenhowl.org/
Sat 10/22 9- 11am, ALEXANDRIA, VA: Doggie Massage class at http://www.tailsofoldetowne.com/
Sat & Sun 10/22 & 23 BEL AIR, MD: The Old Line State Dog Club is hosting what looks like United Kennel Club all breed conformation, obedience and weight pulls at the Heavenly Waters Equestrian Center, 608 N Tollgate Rd 410-557-8349. It looks like registration starts at 7am and the show gets going at 9am but don't quote me on it. Have fun deciphering the difficult website http://www.ukcdogs.com/dogevents/upcoming/i-ev.shtml#october (hint: start by scrolling down to date, then Maryland) or you can email the event secretary at email@example.com .
Sat 10/22 4- 7pm, FREDERICK, MD: Howl n' Wine Festival
http://www.fchs.org/howlnwine.htm hosted by the Frederick Co Humane
Society. Have fun with your dog in costume while sampling wonderful
local wines and catered delights under early autumn skies at
Ceresville Mansion,Pavilion Area. Resched from 10/8 due to rain.
Sun 10/23 11am- 3pm, SOLOMON'S MD: Pet Walk at Annmarie Garden plus pet related vendors and entertainment http://www.cawl.us/petwalk.html .
Tu 10/25 6pm- 8pm, NATIONWIDE: Petsmart is having a Trick or Treat costume party & contests with prizes. You can also buy a Polaroid picture and glow-in-the-dark frame for $6.95. Call to make sure your local Petsmart is participating before you show up since sometimes a rogue location will decide to be a party pooper. The ones in Annapolis and Glen Burnie are having it for sure, but I'm darned if I'm calling all of them.
Wed 10/26 7pm, VIENNA, VA: Spooky Pooch contest in conjunction with the 59th Annual Vienna Halloween Parade. March a 1/2 mile, starting on Maple Ave with the rest of the participants and dress up your dog to compete as spookiest, most creative, and best dog/owner combo. http://www.gooddogz.org/events/spookypooch_reg.htm
Th 10/27 5- 8pm, ALEXANDRIA, VA: Although nothing's on the website http://doggiehappyhour.com/, I'm going to assume Doggie Happy Hour will close out the season with a costume contest as they've done in the past.
Sat 10/29 930am POTOMAC, MD: Montgomery Co SPCA http://www.mcspca.org/default.asp#Special is holding their Dog Walk and Pet Fair (contests, food, auctions etc) in conjunction with Potomac Day. You can tell this is taking place in a high-rent district since they want you to fork out a hefty $35.
Sat 10/29 11am- 3pm, ANNAPOLIS, MD: Get a howling start to Howl-o-ween at the 3rd Annual Barkin' Bash at Quiet Waters Park. You and your pooch are encouraged to come in costume to enjoy the games, food, vendors, music and more http://barkinbash.org/ . This is the cleverest and most competitive fancy dress dog costume contest I've ever seen. Among other astonishing sights in the past was a pack of mutts dressed like a crab feast, complete with a can of Old Bay and a paper towel roll.
