Subject: March '06 DC/Balto/Annapolis Area Dog Events

Sniff? Could that be Spring I smell? Or does Gomez have gas again...Whatever it is, there's reason to believe the cold may eventually leave so we can have fun outside with our dogs without freezing our keesters off.

A lot of interesting things are happening in March including the Newfoundland Club of America's ***NATIONAL SPECIALTY*** see 3/27- 4/1 below for details and the Unofficial Newfie Folk Pancake Social and Carting Practice on Sun 3/5.

Sat 3/4 9am-3pm, MANASSAS, VA: The Nokesville Horse Society http://nhsinc.tripod.com/2006CabinFeverTackSwap/TackSwapWebpage.html is having a tack swap at Southern States (703-368-2165) which also includes a rabies & microchip clinic. In prior years they've had a fun dog contest at noon although I don't see any mention of it for this year. You get a discount on anything you buy at the store.

Sat 3/4 10:30am -2:30pm, ALEXANDRIA, VA: Fun Dog Show followed by the St Patricks Day Parade hosted by the Ballyshaners http://www.ballyshaners.org/ and the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria http://alexandriaanimals.org/~awla/special_events.cfm . Enter (or watch) one of the many fun and silly contests (described on the AWLA page), then join the parade in dog-friendly Old Town.

Sun 3/5 1030am, WESTMINSTER, MD: Unofficial Newfie Folk Pancake Social and Carting Practice at Hashawha/Bear Branch Nature Center, 300 John Owings Rd, Westminster MD 21158 http://ccgovernment.carr.org/ccg/hashawha/default.asp. The plan is meet at the Hashawha Residental Camp at 10:30 for breakfast ($3) and tentatively move over to the parking lot at the Bear Branch nature center at noon to start our trail expedition. Never fear if your Newf is not carting at this time it's a great opportunity to get some starter tips, ask questions or just watch. You also provide a service to those of us who are preparing for the upcoming Draft test by providing distractions.

Sat & Sun 3/11 & 12 8am- 4pm, HARRISBURG, PA: Pawsabilities http://www.keystonehumanservices.org/ssd/pa/pa.php which benefits Susquehanna Service Dogs is a carnival for canines featuring a plethora of fun & educational events for both you and your dog. This is your chance to see more Newfoundlands in one place than ever before and get all kinds of cool Newfie stuff. Even if you can get up there for only a day, it's well worth it to be immersed in all things Newf. Gomez and I will be there for the whole time as well as HUNDREDS of Newfs from all over.
