The doggie social calendar starts to gear up with the advent of better weather, including a Newf Romp n' Swim at the Dog Beach of Downs Park in Pasadena, MD at 1pm on Sun 4/16, Colonial Newfoundland Club's Spring Fun Day on Sun 4/23 and the Anne Arundel SPCA's huge Walk for the Animals on Sun 4/30.

Sat 4/15 4- 6pm, SPRINGFIELD, VA: Bring your furry family members to partake in this traditional celebration of Spring. Dress them in their finest bonnets and hunt for treats in the bone yard. Sun 4/16 1pm, PASADENA, MD: NEWF ROMP n' SWIM! The dog beach is located in the northeast (upper right on map) corner of the park.

Lots of activities going on and free park admission. If you haven't already been there, take the opportunity to check out the fenced, off-leash Dog Park and nearby Dog Beach.

Sat 4/22 12N- 4pm LOTHIAN, MD: First Annual Pet Wellness Expo hosted by The Perfect Pet Resort http://www.perfectpetresort.com/ will give pet owners the opportunity to learn about healing touch massage therapy, animal acupuncture, veterinary medicine & wellness, physical therapy-rehabilitation & conditioning, pet nutrition & dietary health, chiropractic services, skin & coat health & care, and MORE!

Sat 4/22 12N- 4pm, CHANTILLY VA: Spring Beaglefest- Bring your Beagles (and well-socialized Beagle wanna-bes) to our semi-annual BeagleFest. All dogs are allowed to run free in a secure fenced area. Dogs have a GREAT time meeting new friends (human and K9) and playing with each other.

Sun 4/30 8am- 12N, ANNAPOLIS, MD: Walk For The Animals hosted by the Anne Arundel Co. SPCA http://www.aacspca.org/ . This is another BIG one, dogs as far as the eye can see. Booths, vendors, freebies etc. As usual, you don't actually have to register and walk; you can just wander around and enjoy the festivities. The bonus is the Dog Beach and fully fenced Dog Park also located at the Quiet Waters Park site.

Sun 4/30 2- 3pm, SPRINGFIELD, VA: Dog Day Afternoon at Lake Accotink http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/accotink/bark.htm .Treat your canine companion to a special cruise aboard Lake Accotink Park's mighty pontoon boat. The cruise will enchant your dog with glimpses of ducks, geese and other lake dwellers.

Sat 5/6 10am- 4pm, RESTON, VA: The Pet Fiesta http://petfiesta.org/ and http://gooddogz.org/events/petfiesta06.html will be rocking the Reston Town Center. Jam-packed with FUN activities,a 4K walk, fashion show, costumes, contests, exhibitions, displays, and vendors, this one promises to be a blast.

Sat 5/6 10am- 3pm, GREENBELT, MD: Pet Expo at Greenbelt Community Center, 15 Crescent RD Greenbelt MD. Rescue groups, pet-related service providers, demonstrations-agility, flyball, dancing w/your dog. Every Tu and Th 5-8 pm ALEXANDRIA, VA: Doggie Happy Hour http://doggiehappyhour.com . Held on a spacious enclosed outdoor terrace every Tues and Thurs from 5-8pm (often runs later) from April through Oct, this is a remakable combination of Happy Hour and happy dogs. Free and cheap snacks (ie, all-you-can-eat wings $3.95, buy one burger get one free) and a farm wagon piled high with dog yummies combine with booze to make this a memorable social outing for people and canines alike. Dress ranges from cut-offs and a Tshirt to business attire and street parking can be easily found.

Every Fri 4- 8pm WASHINGTON, DC: Doggie Style Happy Hour http://www.doggiestylebakery.com/funevents/happyhours.htm on the covered patio of Adams Mill Bar & Grill, 18th & Columbia Rd.
