Subject: Dec '05 Balto/Annapolis/DC Area Dog Events

Despite the frantic holiday season and cold weather, there's actually some fun dog happenings this month. In addition, all kinds of places are offering pet photos with Santa, way too many for me to list. Check your local pet store, shelter, vet, pets-on-wheels etc. One interesting variation on this theme is at the Westfield Annapolis Mall http://www.westfield.com/annapolis/ on Sun 12/4 & Sun 12/11 when you can take your dog to the mall for photos.

A Newf Romp (no swim-different location) on Sun 12/4 at 1pm will give you a chance to test your cold weather gear, take a break from the holiday madness and do something fun with your poor, neglected dog, details below.

Sat 12/3 1030am, ALEXANDRIA, VA: Join (or watch) the Scottish Christmas Parade in dog friendly Old Town beginning at Wilkes & South Pitt and ending at the Campagna Center where all kinds of festivities are taking place http://www.campagnacenter.org/scw05schedule.htm. There will be some dog groups including the Golden Retrievers of GRREAT http://www.grreat.org/scot_xmas_walk.htm

Sun 12/4 1pm, ARNOLD, MD: NEWF ROMP (without the swim) at the ~3 acre fully fenced Broadneck Dog Park. There's no actual address (or admission fee) for the park. From Rt 50, take Ritchie Hwy (Rt 2) north and turn right on College Parkway. From Rt 100, take Ritchie Hwy (Rt 2) south and turn left on College Parkway. Take the second park entrance (not the first one with horses and ballfields) about 3-4 miles down on the right, just after Broadneck High School on the left and opposite a new housing development. It's easy to miss, so if you find yourself at Cape St Clair Rd, turn around and it'll be about 1/2 mile on the left. Park in the first lot and the dog park is about 1/10 of a mile on the left. Since this is outside in December, it's weather-dependent, so email me if you have any doubts.

Sun 12/4 6pm, REISTERSTOWN, MD: Festival of Lights opening ceremony at the Humane Society of Baltimore Co http://www.hsbcanimals.org/.

Th 12/8 6- 12m, ANNAPOLIS, MD: Midnight Madness I in downtown Annapolis and Maryland Ave isn't really a dog event but usually gets a good canine turnout. The shops stay open until midnight, there's musical entertainment food & refreshments, and parking is free in the Hillman & Gotts garages. You & your pooch can wander around enjoying the scene & pretty decorations. More info, call 410-266-5555

Sat 12/10 8am, MCLEAN, VA: The McLean Chamber of Commerce hosts their annual Reindog parade http://www.chamberhub.com/cgi/foxweb.dll/wlx/cal/wlxprofile?caleid=353&cc=GMLCC at Langley Shopping Center.

Sat 12/10 10am- 2pm, GETTYSBURG, PA: Christmas Tree Festival featuring family fun and arts and crafts along with the cart-pulling (or walk-around friendly) dogs of the Colonial Newfoundland Club http://www.cncnewfs.com/events/2005XmasTreePetNPull.pdf at Seven Springs Tree Farm http://www.sevenspringstrees.com/index.htm.

Sun 12/11 11am- 230pm, FREDERICK, MD: Annual Howliday Party hosted by http://www.grreat.org/05howlidayparty.htm featuring food, games, silent auction, gift exchange and photos with Santa.
