Subject: Map/Directions for Downs Park-Romp n' Swim
In reply to: Xavier and Gomez 's message, "Nov '02 Baltimore/DC/Annapolis Area Dog Events" on 21:13:23 10/31/02 Thu

Go to Downs Park website http://web.aacpl.net/rp/parks/dp/ for park details, maps, directions etc or use the directions below.

From I 97, I 95, I 295, Rt 29, Rt 1, Rt 2 or Rt 10 take Rt 100 East. It eventually merges you onto Mountain Rd (Rt 177). After about 4 miles (seems longer), it splits into straight and right towards Gibson Island. You go straight and Park entrance is a few hundred feet on the right. There are signs along the way.

The dog beach is located in the northeast corner of the park. From the main lot (the one where you can see the Ranger Station, buildings, playground etc) you would go towards the bay, and turn left on the paved path. You'll go through a little woodsy bit, past a pavilion and a bench-like series of steps. The path will take a sharp left after this and the dog beach is right there, down some semi-hidden steps. If you pass a pond and bathroom building on your right, you've gone too far. This may sound like a hike, but isn't much of a distance at all.

For some reason, I can't post maps here, but the one for the park on the Downs Park website (above) is pretty good.

For the road map try http://mapquest.com. You type in the address, in this case 8311 John Downs Loop, Pasadena, MD 21122, and you get a map customizable for zoom, centering, distance and time.

I can send the maps via email, so if you need it that way, let me know.
