Subject: DC/Annapolis/Balto Area July '03 Dog Events

There's a move afoot to start up an All-Breed carting and driving club in the MD/DC/VA/WV/DE area with the intention of meeting once a month or so to work with the dogs. If you think you'd be interested let me know.

As usual, there's not much happening in July that's strictly dog related. However, many of the local parks have concert series that you can take your dog to and both of you can enjoy the music and a picnic. Lake Accotink, VA and Quiet Waters Park, MD are just two of the sites that welcome (or at least tolerate) your canine friend; check out your nearby parks.

Tu 7/1 7pm, FREDERICK, MD: You and your dog can see the Frederick Keys play the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, minor league baseball. Special canine events/demos, check it out at http://www.frederickkeys.com/ .

Th 7/3-Sun 7/6, 7am-6pm, WEST FRIENDSHIP, MD: Howard County Fairgrounds is the site for the Independence Cluster, four AKC all breed and obedience dog shows on one site starting Th through Sun, many vendors. Huge. . Be aware that water is hard to find at these things for some reason. Bring your own, or a collapsible bowl and fill up in the restrooms. http://www.infodog.com/panels/md.htm .

Fr 7/4 930am- 12N, BALTIMORE, MD: Visionary Pets on Parade • Dress your pet and strut your stuff. Registration at 9:30am. Animal fun! Animal prizes for Best Costume, Most Patriotic, Best Fur-do, Visionary Pet Tricks, and more! Visionary Pets Award Ceremony. Visionary Trophies! Free. Lots of water thoughtfully provided. Hosted by the American Visionary Arts Museum (AVAM) http://avam.org/cgi-bin/Events.cgi in Federal Hill, this place is Weird Central of Baltimore. You'll see things here (ie grass growing on a pink car) you'll never see anywhere else. Bouffant hairdos, feather boas and rhinestone encrusted stretch pants will abound and the female contingent will be even more colorful. A multitude of events go on all day and if you can last that long, it's a fine place to view the fireworks at the Inner Harbor.

Sat 7/5 630pm, ANNAPOLIS, MD: Your whole family, including pooch, can watch the disc catching dogs of Skyhoundz fly through the air after frisbees. Who knows, you might even want to enter yourself and Fido in this low key and friendly event where fun for your dog is the numbe 1 priority. Held at Truxton Park's Griscom Field, 273 Hilltop Lane, 21403 http://skyhoundz.com/localchampionships.html .

Sun 7/6 9am, CHANTILLY, VA: Hound hike at Ellanor C. Lawrence Park http://www.co.fairfax.va.us/parks/ecl/ with No Va Hiking Club http://members.aol.com/nvhc/ .

Sat & Sun 7/12 & 13 8am- 8pm, BERRYVILLE, VA: Back to back AKC All Breed and Obedience Dog Shows by Shawnee Kennel Club at the Clarke Co Fairgrounds http://www.infodog.com/panels/va.htm

Sat & Sun 7/19 & 20, HANOVER, PA: CNC's water workshop at Lake Codorus http://www.cncnewfs.com/Calendar.htm#JULY , details in the newsletter you probably misplaced.

Sun 7/27 930am- 3pm, WARRENTON, VA: Georjean's Grooming Shop, 540-341-7699, 367 West Shirley Ave, Warrenton, VA (across from the hospital) will be holding an all breed clinic for CERF ($25), Tattoo ($15), Microchip ($35); owners are responsible for CERF, NDR & Microchip registration fees. Call 540-341-4987 or 703-620-5931 to schedule appts.
