Oh... this is embarrassing... I've been putting egg shells into my potting mix because my mother has a flock of Aracuna (sp) chickens that lay all colored eggs. From shades of pinky brown to blue-green and all inbetween. She sent 18 home with me, and I so loved all the colors that I just made sure all the shells were cooked and started adding them to the dirt. I thought what a lovely enduring way to remember what I normally would throw out.

It also works well to help add drainage material to the mix. Over time it will put mineral calcium back into the ground. Other than that, I haven't a clue.

Batty would be our own dear Iris. Now don't you feel silly!? She latched onto the 'Old Bat' moniker a while back. I just hope she will keep coming back, even if she is not immediately recognizable!
