Subject: Shreveport Steamer WFL
The Steamers played their first game against Memphis with no logo on their helmets. They did leave the Houston helmet stripes on their
helmets.https://www.facebook.com/356797292655/videos/387792995473626/
They used a "S" for a logo for the rest of the 1974 season.

Thank you, I am about to add that one to the website.
However, I believe the game at Memphis was the team's second game, rather than the first, after becoming the Shreveport Steamer. Both the 'Helmet Hut' website and Wikipedia indicate that the franchise moved to Shreveport from Houston on September 18. Wikipedia lists a game at Birmingham on September 19, six days before the home game vs Memphis on September 25.
What did the Shreveport Steamer's helmets look like on September 19?

Short answer first -- The probably wore the Texans helmets for they game because that's what they were still being billed as.
The WFL took over the franchise and sold it to a Shreveport backer on September 18 and then things got complicated.
Shortly after the announcement, a temporary injunction was granted forcing the team to play one more home game in Houston on Sept. 25 before being allowed to move. The injunction was sought not by the city of Houston, which couldn't have cared less, or by the Astrodome, who had a profitable tenant who paid their bills in the Oilers, but by at Houston meat business that was running a promotion at the next Texans home game.
On September 19, the Texans, who weren't really the Texans at this point, showed up in Birmingham for the WFL's nationally televised game of the week knowing they were headed to Shreveport. They were without their head coach, who had been suspended for urging his players to boycott the move, and their quarterback, who decided to quit the team. Predictably, they lost 42-14.
Three days later, a judge lifted the injunction, reasoning that a game featuring a bad, lame duck franchise with attendance issues wasn't likely to draw fans anyway. And off to Shreveport they went.
So now you know more about the Houston Texans move to Shreveport than you ever wanted to.

Charles - Just wondering if you are going to post what looks to be that last helmet to complete the World Football League page . Ian Winton pretty much explained what the Sept 19th helmet was. We know they played their first game in Shreveport without a logo and then added the "S" at some point to finish the season. Just curious :)
Thanks

Sorry, that one must have slipped my mind (along with a thousand other things, lol).
I believe I had been trying to find a clear photograph of the Steamer helmet with the "S" logo and unfortunately there don't seem to be any in existence. The best photographs I've found seem to imply (or at least not rule out) the possibility that the "S" was slightly angled or 'italic':
http://www.helmethut.com/WFL/WFLsteamersS.html
Which is not the case with the alleged logo:

If anyone knows of a better photograph of one of the actual helmets obviously that would be very helpful to me.

Re: Shreveport Steamer WFL -- charles arey, 14:05:44 07/30/21 Fri (40.134.85.25)
Finally I found a decent photograph of the 1974 helmet which I think will enable me to add that one to the website:
https://scontent-atl3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.6435-9/163540970_4083117131732774_8727842473372632610_n.jpg?_nc_cat=102&ccb=1-3&_nc_sid=973b4a&_nc_ohc=cPFDmWZg_LAAX_R2x5s&_nc_ht=scontent-atl3-1.xx&oh=5293e5554cd1f2d54c309bb12765e607&oe=61294DFD
The "S" is clearly italic and a bit different in shape from the one shown at sportlogos.net and other places.

thanks
