Sinking lower in my raft, sun placing fire on my face,
A lonely soul left behind in war's dark, ugly race.
Our great ship I called home, the pride of her fleet,
Now rules Neptune's Netherworld, her short life so sweet.
Lapping wavelets tap softly as thoughts turn to you...
Sobering breaks from pins stabbing my mind so blue.
Shades of evening bring spray now turned chill,
In mind's weary eye, you warm my heart still.
Birds cry, transformed to your own precious voice,
Carried on the wind, I strain to hear, no choice...
Tell me your dreams, they breathe life to me,
To you my heart I give, safely kept from cruel sea.
My weakened frame now hears its calling from above,
This damp vessel, my final night, is a house full of love.
As spirit escapes in one long, lingering breath,
My soul sends its Valentine letter, undiminished by death.
