Research concluded in my mad uncle's lab,
Mind-augmentation, his project of choice,
He left, as I lingered, cleaning quarters so drab,
Fighting huge headache, so hating each noise.
I found a pill bottle, thinking, "aspirin, for sure",
Room started spinning, like bees 'round their hives,
That uncorked vessel, spewing fumes like manure,
I downed uncle's project, sure's I'm alive!!
Crept home that night, feeling throbs in my brain,
Jumped under the covers, one hell of a day!
My sore pulsing head made sleeping a strain,
If aware of tomorrow, in bed I would stay!
For morning brought my alarm's unwelcome buzzzzz...
Today was for meeting my sweetheart's mom and dad,
My first introduction, mind feeling like fuzz,
I drove to their townhouse, so anxious, so glad!
My sweetie just beamed as she brought me to mom,
Who cooed soft, sweet greetings, so smooth to my ear,
Hearing one thing, but my mind dropped a bomb,
Mom's mental voice comparing large onion to my rear!!
I gasped and I shuddered, recoiling from this,
My sweetie brought others, didn't once hesitate,
Musical "Nice to see you" left the lips of her Sis,
But mental voice snapped, "What a loser!", JUST GREAT!
The scene did break down, as I clawed for the door,
While sweetie, my love, went off to fetch dad,
My mad uncle's drug READ THOUGHTS, couldn't take much more!
Dark words from those hearts, conditions so sad!
I switched that old bottle with aspirin, you see,
A mind-reading tool has no place in this life,
My sweetie, I lost, but between you and me,
The price, far too high: intense in-law strife!!
