A Shadow walks amoung us, its breath cold and damp,
An unwelcome presence, sapping life, quenching its lamp.
A final dark appointment, all mortals must surely keep,
But much fussing and fretting sure cheats us of sleep!
Can't catch my breath! What IS that pain? Endless circles of woe...
If life is so dear, and zest in our veins, where does our focus go?!!
TV's blare, a well-beaten drum, our products will cure all your ills!
Our minds in a cage, no time just to LIVE, popping those endless pills.
So Shadow, my friend, others you haunt, but me, I loudly avow,
My precious hours, life's pulses within, I cherish so fully, HOW?
Everyday moments, savored with joy, down to my very last breath,
I surely shall die, but that is all I give, to that intruding Shadow called Death!
