My car is silent as the park lights fade to gone
Metal sounds echoing- preparing for my run
Strangers all around me, a world ‘bout to collide
My Buick Regal sheltering the world I’ve yet to hide

High school student no more in this world of ours
Now wrapped up in a blanket countin’ out stars.
Think I’ll take that last walk through Beulah Park
Boy, it sure looks different here well past dark.

Carnies shouting out their words of tear down night
A weird peaceful feeling made me feel all right.
Back to my car I flee to catch some needed sleep
Till a knock awoke me from a rest so deep.

Two a.m., time to follow the metal beasts on
Up State Road 9, red-eyed my first real run.
Odd to drive into a silenced ghost town
Yet, wanted to proceed, didn’t want to turn around.

Found solace once more on the bench of my car.
Turned off the engine and wished once on a star.
I found my sleep parked next to a folded ride.
Strangers all around me, our worlds did collide.

Awoke the next morning ‘round eight a.m.
My car was parked on that roadway’s lonely bend.
Didn’t know what to do, was I in the way?
I knew we had to set up that very day.

It’s a world that changed me in every way
And I’m thankful for that experience every day.

I often used to wonder who’d walk in my place
After my miles were over and new summers replace
But now I know my miles will forever go on
Because that part of me will never be gone.
