That Day burst upon me with no hint of fame,
I rolled from my bunk with haze in my eyes,
Green troubles would pummel this body so lame,
My sleep-shrouded mind was in for surprise!
One foot leading the other was all I could manage,
As my morning routine got well underway,
That bus ride to work had no hint of damage,
I was to encounter, that innocent Day!
Opening the door to my place of employ,
It flashed to my eye an unusual scene,
Fitzgerald, our receptionist, BRIGHT GREEN, oh boy...
On this impish Day of March seventeen!
"Good Marn'in!", her brogue was cutting and short,
That outfit was green as grass on the hill,
My clothes clashed sorely, I had no retort,
I sulked to my dest, how crushed was my will!
Around me, swirling, with green-tinted glee,
O'Brien, Fitzsimmons, O'Shaunessey, O'Hair...
My cohorts heckling and pinching, PURE MISERY!
Saint Patty's Day surely hemmed me in everywhere!
So keep yer blarney, yer shamrocks, yer cabbage so foul,
Send those potatoes right back 'cross the sea,
Holding head in my hands, I gave a sharp yowl:
"I'm a pure-bred Italian, and it's JUST-A FINE WITH ME!!
