I know a lot of people use their computer to print their journaling in cute fonts. Does anyone know for sure whether the printer ink is safe for archival use?

Hi Tamara....
The answer to your question about the safety of computer ink varies from brand to brand. Most printer manufacturer's admit that their ink is not currently acid-free (there are ways around this), but it is something that is being worked on. The main thing to look for in printer ink is whether or not the ink is fade proof and water resistant. Again, that is what varies. You would have to check with your printer manufacturer to be sure.
As far as the acid-free aspect....if you print on acid- free paper to begin with and place this on an acid-free scrapbook page, this greatly reduces the risk of acid migration to your photos. Other things you can do are:
*double or triple matting your computer-printed journaling
*enclosing the journaled paper in a mounting sleeve

Hope that helps....does anyone have any other suggestions?

Take care,
Megan

I went to my printers web site and checked.(I think I actually had to send them an email). You could also print and then test with one of those acid test pens. If you truly do not trust the printer ink then you can still print them out and then use a light box and trace them on to your page. Hope this helps.
