Ball is named third-team All-America

The Record

University of the Pacific senior Cindy Ball was named to the NFCA Division I All-America third team as a pitcher on Wednesday.

Ball was a third-team selection last year and is the first two-time All-American in softball at Pacific.

''I know that my team had a big role in my success,'' Ball said. ''How the team does defensively plays a tremendous role in my success as a pitcher.''

Ball finished her career with the most wins (91), strikeouts (761), shutouts (45), saves (10) and RBI (111) in school history. She was a two-time Big West pitcher of the year and the conference's all-time strikeouts leader.

College women's basketball

Pacific coach Craig Jackson added Donna Carrell to his staff. Carrell spent the past three years as an assistant at East Carolina, where she was the recruiting coordinator and specialized in player development at the guard position.

''Coach Carrell's experience and energy are a welcome addition to the Tiger family,'' Jackson said. ''Her vitality and competitive fire will help guide us toward our goal of a Big West Championship.''

Carrell played at Florida International and helped lead the school to the second round of the NCAA Tournament her senior season in 1998. She began her coaching career as an assistant at Central Florida Community College.

''I am thrilled with the opportunity to continue my coaching career at Pacific, and honored to work alongside Craig,'' Carrell said.

Earlier this week, Milena Flores was named to Jackson's staff.

College administration

Joel Morgan is the new assistant athletic director for facilities at Pacific. Morgan held the same position the past two years at the University of San Diego and was responsible for helping build Jenny Craig Pavilion. Morgan spent three years at Gonzaga and graduated from Iowa in 1997.
