Subject: Girls Tournament Evening Session

I wasn't at the evening session since I have to work today, and I have to work tomorrow as well. Our girls promised me that they would win on Friday so I could watch on Saturday.

In the first game last night, Long Beach State had problems putting Cow Poly away, but in the end the 49ers won 77-72. It took an 18-8 run to start the second half to tie the game at 48 to do it, however. Senior Ekuah Ramsey led the way on 12-20 shooting for 24 points. Senior Crystal Givens added a double-double (19 pts, 12 rebounds, 3 blocks). Cow Poly's leader was junior guard Keri Duperron, who had 21 points and hit an incredible 13-19 free throws. She was assisted by sophomore Kate Valdes, who had 17 points on 8-12 shooting and 3 blocks.

Top seeded UC Santa Barbara also had problems before pulling away from Cal State Foolerton 73-62. A 10-2 run late killed the Titans (although they did answer with a 7-2 run of their own). This continued a 19 game win streak for the Gauchos and also extended to 16 a streak in the Big West Conference Tournament. UCSB was led by sophomore center Lindsay Taylor, who nearly got a double-double (8-11 for 21 pts, 4 blocks, 7 rebounds) and junior guard Jess Hansen, who got 15 points on 4 threes. Foolerton's senior guard Lindsay Sotero ended her Titan career with 18 points, all from behind the arc. (Wow!)

On Friday, look for #4 LBSU to upset #1 UCSB at noon and for UCR to have their you-know-whats handed to them by our beloved #3 Lady Tigers at about 2:30. Unfortunately, like I said, I can't make it, but we will win out regardless.

Here's to our coming double National Championship!!!
